Endoscope camera modules: small sensors, hard lighting, real diameters

The OD is the product. The sensor has to live inside it.

An endoscope camera is a sensor that has to fit a tube. Medical GI and industrial look-inside share the physics: tiny die, LEDs as the only light, a cable, and an outer diameter that is the spec. The old overview was almost only hospital language. We also ship these into machines that are not patients.

What to lock

  • Outer diameter and whether the module is packaged with LEDs or a bare sensor head.
  • Resolution versus the hole. 400x400 in 1.4 mm is a different product from 960x960 with a 130 degree FOV.
  • Sensor family you can still buy: OV6946, OCHTA10, OCHFA10 and the rest in the shop, not a random phone die.
  • Cable length, connector, and whether the host is USB, MIPI, or a custom serializer.

Start at endoscope camera modules. A concrete packaged example is OV6946 packaged endoscope. Bare heads exist when you already have a distal housing. Do not buy a 1/2.8 inch security module and hope it fits a 2 mm channel.

Sterilization, biocompatibility, and 510(k) are project requirements. We will not write them into a blog post as if they were free. The module still has to be optically honest in a wet, dark tube. That is the part we build.
