A doorbell looks at a person and at the sky at the same time. That is the garage-exit problem in a porch. If the module clips the sky, you lose the street. If it saves the sky, the visitor is a silhouette. HDR, an IR-cut that can move or a dual filter, and a wide lens that still matches the pixel CRA are the work. A 5 MP sticker is not.

What to lock before you pick a sensor
- Day and night: IR-cut behaviour and whether 850 or 940 nm lamps sit in the housing.
- FOV: usually wide, which fights small modern pixels on CRA. Test the corners.
- Weather and UV on the front glass. Coatings and a sealed holder are part of the lens.
- Host: most doorbell SoCs want MIPI. A USB doorbell is a different architecture.
